Teck Resources Ltd. announced a partnership with Caterpillar to adopt 30 zero-emission trucks. The move is meant to help the miner reduce Scope 1 emissions and its carbon footprint by 2030 and beyond.

Beginning in 2027, adoption will follow a multiphased approach that includes early development, piloting and deployment of trucks, including the 794. The first units will go to the Elk Valley coking coal operations in British Columbia.

The partnership will support global efforts to combat climate change, Teck said. “Decarbonizing our haul truck fleet is a critical step forward on our road to carbon neutrality and we are pleased to collaborate with Caterpillar to advance this work,” CEO Don Lindsay said.

Caterpillar said the partnership will strengthen collaboration between the companies and deliver results. “We look forward to working with Teck to support their climate goals and developing solutions to increase operational efficiency while substantially reducing emissions,” said Denise Johnson, group president.
