Spectro Inc. has introduced the Spectroil Q100 oil analysis spectrometer, an analytical instrument that detects and quantifies metals in used (in-service) oils and hydraulic fluids that are indicative of an abnormal condition. The Spectroil Q100 is intended to help predict mechanical failures in their early stages so corrective action can be taken, and is designed to work equally well in the laboratory or in the field, under less than ideal conditions.
According to the company, the Spectroil Q100 is well suited for in-service oil analysis because technology has made it smaller and the addition of an innovative CCD optical system has made it more flexible for even the most exotic in-service oil analysis applications. The standard configuration is set up to analyze 22 wear metals, contaminants and additives in 30 seconds. Additional elements can be added at any time, even in the field if an application suddenly calls for unusual elements. The Spectroil Q100 also fulfills the requirements of ASTM D6595 Standard Method for Determination of Wear Metals and Contaminants in Used Lubricating Oils or Hydraulic Fluids by Rotating Disc Electrode Atomic Emission Spectrometry.
