Having pioneered best practices in industry-led teaching, research and technological advances for generations, the Camborne School of Mines at the U.K.’s Exeter University is celebrating its 125th anniversary. To date, the mining and engineering center has been organizing events to share its experience, including a Live Wall, an interactive forum of highlights, milestones and achievements since the school’s 1888 inception.
Camborne’s Head Frances Wall said, “We are all excited about this landmark occasion.”
The wall features memories and anecdotes from alumna from around the globe, industry facts and figures, and the institution’s relevance and importance to modern society. Ongoing commemorations will continue uniting the school community over the coming weeks with regular updates and additions.
Amid the celebrations, staff also held a 35th International Conference of Safety in Mines Research Institutes in London highlighting new safety technology and disaster management developments worldwide. Researchers spoke on laser scanning and 3-D modeling in mining accident investigations, analyses of mine roof and quarry fall hazards, and long-range rescue communication.
