Stillwater Mining Co. officials have announced that Stillwater Canada Inc. has requested the joint panel evaluating its Marathon project suspend environmental assessment and hearings pending further notice. The inquiries were originally slated to begin February 20. The board is evaluating an Environmental Impact Statement. The Marathon platinum-copper deposit lies 300 km east of Thunder Bay.

CEO Mick McMullen said a feasibility study alongside partner Mitsubishi Corp. remains under way “but the project team has identified areas for further evaluation of operational and processing approaches and optimization options.”
