Vale said its railroad serving the Carajas iron ore mine remained closed. The track connects its largest iron ore mine with the Ponta da Madeira Port in the State of Maranhao. Railcar movements were suspended after a metal structure on a bridge over the Mearim River collapsed March 16.

According to Reuters, Vale expected the closure would prevent 300,000 metric tons of iron ore from reaching the export facilities, but did expect to compensate for that with faster shipments through other ports.
