Officials at Kootenay Silver are building a 92-million-oz resource while creating a joint partnership at its flagship asset with Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), which has invested $4.7 million.

AEM representatives expressed optimism over the Promontorio open pit in Sonora, Mexico. “We are pleased to be involved with the advancement,” said Sean Boyd, CEO, AEM; Agnico-Eagle is major gold produer, mining more than 1 million oz of gold annually.

Mineralization at Promontorio, which dates to the 1920s, is hosted in a diatreme breccia complex, measuring 3.5 by 1.8 km. Diatreme complexes are known to host massive precious and base metal deposits.

At the site, mineralization is centered on multi-stage breccias and peripheral stock-work zones; drilling is pit and northeast—zone-concentrated. Both zones are open along strike and at depth—offering potential for significant resource expansion.
