The Canadian Malartic General Partnership (CMGP) received notice on August 15 of an application for injunction relating to the Canadian Malartic mine, which has been filed under the Environment Quality Act by plaintiffs Dave Lemire and Benjamin Gagnon-Lamothe, both members of the Citizens Committee for the Zone South of the Malartic Railway. The request for injunction aims to restrict the mining operations to volumes below the limits to which it is subject. CMGP has reviewed the injunction request, and said it considers the request without basis and will take all reasonable steps to defend itself in connection with this injunction and any related lawsuit.

The Citizens Committee has challenged the compensation amounts contained in the previously announced Good Neighbor Guide. CMGP said it remains committed to the engagement process under way and will continue with the previously announced plans to implement the guide, effective September 1. The guide was developed in conjunction with the Canadian Malartic Monitoring Committee, the town of Malartic, and the Canadian Malartic mine. These stakeholders used a collaborative approach to develop the guide with the objective to mitigate and compensate residents of Malartic for the mine’s impact and to present guidelines for property acquisition in Malartic.

Since August 2, more than 800 residents of Malartic have participated in information sessions to better understand the details of and provide input into the guide. The majority of these participants have responded positively to the compensation amounts and conditions presented in the guide. CMGP believes this is the result, in part, of its ongoing commitment to fair, equal and transparent engagement.

The Canadian Malartic mine is owned by equal partners Agnico Eagle Mines and Yamana Gold. Together, they form the Canadian Malartic GP and Canadian Malartic Corp. Canadian Malartic GP owns and operates the Canadian Malartic mine, while Canadian Malartic Corp. oversees exploration projects in Ontario and Quebec. Canadian Malartic mine is Canada’s largest operating gold mine.
