Valmet signed a 2-year service agreement with Karara Mining in Australia for the delivery of filter cloths for tailings filtration. The agreement ensures that Karara Mining has filter cloths for tailings filtration always available and support in maximizing the reliability of the process, Valmet said.

The agreement also includes regular technical, research and development, and continuous improvement service site visits by a Valmet filtration expert. “There is also potential for including Smart Cloth Monitoring to optimize filtration performance,” Valmet said.

Leadership for the miner said its ongoing relationship with Valmet and its quality, expertise, and excellent customer service merited the contract. “Tailings management today is at the core of our operations,” said Gavin Kelly, production manager. “In order to be sustainable in the mining sector, there are no compromises in respect to tailings.”

Use of Valmet Press Filter Fabrics has improved the productivity of the tailings plant for the miner, Valmet said. “I’m happy to see that we have been able to support Karara in reaching their sustainability targets,” said Michael Murphy, product sales manager.

Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West region of Western Australia.
