FLSmidth reported being chosen to supply the full equipment and processing flowsheet, including ore leaching, for the Sabina Gold & Silver Corp.’s Goose gold mine in the West Kitikmeot region of Nunavut, Canada.

The scope of contract includes the jaw crusher, Raptor cone crushers, ball mill, VXP-Stirred Mill and Krebs cyclones, pumps, screens, feeders and Knelson gravity concentrators. The order also includes equipment for pre-oxidation and leaching; carbon in pulp extraction; absorption, desorption and refining; and detoxification.

The order is valued at approximately $38.1 million and the equipment is slated for delivery in the middle of 2023, ahead of the mine startup date in Q1 2025.

The order is a milestone on the mine’s path to becoming a midtier gold producer, the miner said. “We are pleased to have these critical technologies procured with a vendor that has a proven track record for providing equipment and support to remote projects around the world,” Sabina CEO Bruce McLeod said.

FLSmidth is negotiating to supply commissioning and other support services. The ability to provide that support in remote areas helped win the contract, the supplier said. “Our proven ability in providing an industry-leading and productivity-maximizing gold flowsheet, combined with our capability to supply services and parts to this remote region throughout the lifecycle of the project were key factors in Sabina’s decision,” CEO Mikko Keto said.

Separately, FLSmidth reported it was selected to supply a range of processing equipment for “a large, established copper-gold mine in Southeast Asia” to help it increase processing capacity. The miner ordered two gearless SAG mills, two gearless ball mills, three CCD thickeners, two tailings thickeners and one filtrate thickener.

The order shows the supplier maintains its leadership position in the sector, Keto said. “As a key equipment provider, we will ensure optimized throughput and the efficient commissioning of the equipment in an environmentally friendly manner,” he said. “We are now looking forward to helping the customer increase its capacity and production of copper, a key mineral in the clean energy transition.”
