Sika has signed an agreement to acquire MBCC Group, the former BASF Construction Chemicals, from an affiliate of Lone Star Funds, for EUR 5.2 billion ($6 billion). MBCC Group is a leading supplier of construction chemicals worldwide. The acquisition will complement and broaden Sika’s product and solution offerings in four of five core technologies and seven of eight target markets and will further strengthen its geographic footprint.

From a mining perspective, this transaction will create the largest shotcrete player by far in the market with a wide portfolio that includes ground consolidation, paste backfilling, asset maintenance and repair with a presence at most large-scale mining operations globally in particular most large block-cave operations.

Headquartered in Mannheim, Germany, MBCC Group has 7,500 employees and operations in more than 60 countries with more than 130 production facilities. In 2021, the company is expected to generate net sales of EUR 2.7 billion ($3.1 billion).
