Eriez has released a white paper for the minerals processing industry titled Magnetic Separation Techniques to Improve Grinding Circuit Efficiency–2014, offering an in-depth exploration of how its trunnion magnets can provide significant cost savings by efficiently separating and removing balls and broken ball pieces encountered in ball mill and SAG mill operations.

The paper, written by Jose Marin, Eriez’s director of materials and minerals processing, focuses on several of the company’s 150 trunnion magnet installations around the globe. It describes the application/circuit location and the accompanying technique/equipment solution. Application photos and diagrams are included for each highlighted application. Tables and graphs illustrate the improvements gained when a trunnion magnet is installed.

The paper, said Eriez, represents a current view of the effects of grinding ball fragments in the milling circuit and the impact on the crushing and grinding circuit. The performance of a trunnion magnet should be compared to the existing operations, especially if cost savings and output need improvement. It is available online.
