Officials at Tiger Resources Ltd. have announced a June monthly record at their Kipoi copper project’s heavy media plant in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)—at 4,422 copper concentrate metric tons (mt), 47% over nameplate capacity and 10% above March’s previous 4,007 mt-record.
It heralds better yields to come, according to Australia-based Tiger. “As we proceed deeper into the Kipoi Central deposit, the rock becomes stronger with higher contained copper content,” said Managing Director Brad Marwood. “We find increasing production performance with better recovery, better concentrate grades and lower costs.”
In April, Tiger produced 3,263 copper mt and 3,431 copper mt in May, according to company officials. Q1 production was at 11,116 mt of copper, another record. Since the beginning of Q1 2013, Tiger has produced 20,604 copper mt—11% over a budgeted 18,500 mt. Waste mining, meanwhile, accelerated to maintain production as operating costs have been reduced through Q4 2013, according to the company.
