USC NuScale Voygr Plant-minUtah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) and NuScale Power Corp. have mutually agreed to terminate the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP), which reportedly was the first deployment of small modular reactor (SMR). Despite efforts to advance the project, potential customers showed little interest in purchasing the power and the two companies decided to end the project.

“Our work with the CFPP over the past 10 years has advanced NuScale technology to the stage of commercial deployment; reaching that milestone is a tremendous success which we will continue to build on with future customers,” said NuScale President and CEO John Hopkins. NuScale said it will continue with its other domestic and international customers to bring our American SMR technology to market and grow the U.S. nuclear manufacturing base.
