British Columbia (BC) has awarded the 2014 Edward Prior Award to the Copper Mountain mine.
The award is presented annually to the mining operation having worked between 200,000 and 1 million man hours during the year, with the lowest loss time incident (LTI) rate. Representatives from the Copper Mountain mine accepted the award at the BC Mines Safety Awards Banquet in Victoria.
“I congratulate our mine employees for their dedication to safety while continuing to achieve new operational records at the mine,” said Jim O’Rourke, president and CEO of Copper Mountain. “During the first 19 days of April, the mill operated at record rates and throughput averaged 39,800 [metric tons per day]. We have a strong operating team, and I am confident that the team will continue to maintain their great safety record while they continue to maximize production.” At the time of the award, the mine had worked more than 1.5 million hours LTI-free.
