Taseko Mines Ltd.’s Gibraltar Mine near Williams Lake, British Columbia, won the John Ash Award at the Provincial Annual Mine Safety Awards on May 5. Presented by British Columbia’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, the John Ash Award is presented annually to the open-pit mine in British Columbia working more than 1 million worker hours with the lowest lost time injury-frequency rate.
“Operating with high health and safety standards is paramount to our company’s success and values,” Senior Vice President of Operations Richard Tremblay said. “I would like to congratulate our employees for their role in Gibraltar’s award-winning safety performance. Six times in the last eight years Gibraltar has won the prestigious John Ash Award.”
He added that no other large open-pit mining operation in British Columbia has ever achieved this.
