In 2014, the Society of Mining Engineers (SME) partnered with Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and successfully launched the Mining in Society Merit Badge. They need help continuing to educate Scouts and creating interest in the mining sector and related industries. In July, the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jean, West Virginia, will host more than 40,000 Scouts, Venturers and leaders from around the nation, and SME is participating with a Mining in Society merit badge booth. The Jamboree takes place every four years and they need help in two areas: volunteers and financial donations.

To successfully participate in this amazing event, $40,000 is needed to cover costs. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and can be given by the following ways:

Or mailed to:

Since SME Foundation is a non-profit organization, a contribution will receive a tax receipt. Larger donations ($5,000 and greater) will be recognized with signage at the booth and on staff apparel where possible.

At least 10 volunteers are still needed to staff the following sessions:

Full Session: July 15-29

Session 1: July 15-22

Session 2: July 22-29
