Officials at Siemens Drive Technologies Division have announced the pending delivery of gearless drive technology to Minera Chinalco Perú S.A. or two new mills for the expansion at its mine 4,600 m above sea level in Peru’s Yauli province.

The two drives will be used in a production line, with one SAG mill and one ball mill run by the subsidiary of the Aluminum Corp. of China, Chinalco. Accordingly, 1 million copper concentrate tons, 10,000 molybdenum tons and 4 million silver oxide oz will be mined annually — despite the extreme altitude and the rugged, remote environment. The mine lies in Morococha, 150 km from Lima, the capital.
