In 2015, Grupo Peñoles invested $330 million to expand its zinc refinery in Torreón. In January 2017, this expansion began to take effect, making it the sixth largest plant of its kind in the world. Peñoles recently reported a 120,000-ton-per-year (t/y) increase above its normal 240,000 t/y production.
Currently, Peñoles has 28 operations in 10 states of the Mexican Republic.
