In 2012, Russian nickel miner Norilsk Nickel will spend around RUB 1.6 billion ($54 million) in recreation programs for its employees and their families. Most of the money will be allocated for health resort treatment programs, around RUB 173 million ($6 million) will be spent on recreation programs for children.
This practice has developed into being a priority for the company as a socially responsible employer. Every year, Norilsk purchases vouchers to health resorts located both in Russia and abroad (Bulgaria, Spain and Cyprus). Employees are granted vouchers and they pay an average of 15% of their value ($500).
As many as 1,600 children will have an opportunity to participate in recreation programs and spend summer holidays in camps located in Anapa and Tuapse regions. Children going in for sports will be able to go to sports camp located in Lutraki (Greece).
Given the remoteness and extreme northern environment in the area where Norilsk Nickel operates, health care is an important part of the company’s social policy.
