On Monday evening, Oct. 10, 2011, Prof. Jan Laitos will deliver an all-encompassing presentation on cyanide use and regulations in the U.S. and abroad. In his presentation, he will discuss some of the incidents that drew attention to the industry, recent state rulings in the U.S., and many of the new regulations banning the use of cyanide in other regions. He will also discuss concerns regarding the current state of mining law education in the U.S. This is a must-attend lecture for professionals who deal with cyanide on-site and mining companies currently permitting or considering mining operation that will use cyanide to liberate gold.

The dinner discussion kicks off E&MJ’s Mineral Processing conference, which takes place at the Hyatt in North Lake Tahoe, Nev. The morning session on the follow day (Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011) kicks off with a discussion of mill operations at Kennecott Utah Copper, followed by a presentation on drives at Quadra FNX Mining in Nevada and a discussion of West African iron ore processing. During the afternoon, two presentations focus on comminution (HPGR and primary gyratories), followed by some new technology for mineral processing. The conference will close Wednesday morning with four presentations related to tailings management. Professional development hours are available for engineers and metallurgists.
