MDM Engineering has been awarded the definitive feasibility study (DFS) for Royal Bafokeng Platinum’s 250,000-metric-ton-per-month (mt/m) Merensky upgrade at its Bafokeng Rasimone platinum mine in South Africa. The BRPM Concentrator is a joint venture platinum operation between RBPlat and Anglo American Platinum, and was initially designed to treat 200,000 mt/m of Merensky ore.

“MDM is thrilled to be working on yet another PGM project after the successful construction and commissioning of the Tharisa expansion project in South Africa in 2012,” said Jeff Stevens, MDM principal study manager. MDM has also been awarded a second DFS for the stand-alone 100,000-mt/m Merensky concentrator, which is to be erected adjacent to the existing BRPM concentrator.
