Modular Mining Systems reported a successful commissioning of its Dispatch fleet management system (FMS) at the Copper Mountain mine in southern British Columbia, Canada.

The 18,000 acre site is designed to operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, with a mine rate of 175,000 metric tons per day (mt/d). Implementation of the FMS will enable the mine to optimize production from their fleet of 21 haul trucks and four loading units.

Don Strickland, vice president-operations for Copper Mountain, cited Modular’s experience as being a key factor in the decision-making process. “We are excited about using this system to capture production improvement opportunities,” Strickland said.

Fleet management systems allow mines to maximize production, minimize risk and reduce the overall fleet operating cost. “Many mines do not consider the purchase of a fleet management system as a capital savings during an expansion plan,” said Greg Lanz, general manager-North America for Modular. “Our primary goal is to help Copper Mountain meet or exceed their production goals as an alternative to simply adding haulage capacity.”

Copper Mountain’s production facility commenced operations in 2011 and currently has a 17+ year expected lifespan.
