Officials at top miner Anglo American have reported modest Q2 gains across their iron ore, copper and coal businesses through production improvements; fertilizer decreased stemming from maintenance and throughput stoppages.

At South Africa’s Kumba Iron Ore, production increased 2% to 11.5 million metric tons (mt) following a solid performance at Sishen and Kolomela, and waste removal at Sishen remained a key focus, according to representatives; enhanced production performance buoyed South African asset outputs.

Met coal export production, meanwhile, increased 10% to 4.8 million mt. Thermal coal exports, on the other hand, fell 5% to 8.1 million mt.

Los Bronces and Collahuasi witnessed 6% copper ouput increases to 194,400 mt, with improved production via higher throughput, offset by lower production forecasts. El Soldado nickel production, meanwhile, increased 25% to 10,600 mt from Barro Alto stability and furnace construction beginning Q3. Niobium production remained flat at 1,100 mt; concentrate phosphates, too, stayed flat at 349,500 mt. Fertilizer decreased 8% over maintenance and throughput constraints.
