ABB Acquires Ring Motor Business from Alstom

ABB has acquired Alstom’s ring motor business to enhance its gearless mill drive system business. Financial details were not disclosed. The acquisition creates a full, vertically-integrated systems provider, said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB Process Automation division. “The know-how, experience and technology this acquisition brings will enable ABB to increase manufacturing capabilities and strengthen the ring motor business,” he said. The Alstom unit, headquartered in Bilbao, Spain, has 120 employees and will join ABB’s Process Automation division, said ABB representatives.
