Nautilus Minerals reported in late January that construction and assembly has been completed on two of the three seafloor production tools that will be used to produce mined material at its Solwara 1 seafloor copper-gold mining project in the Bismarck Sea, New Ireland province, Papua New Guinea. The tools were built by Soil Machine Dynamics at its facility at Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Work has also started on the production support vessel, which is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2017. Marine Assets Corp. is managing construction of the vessel and has entered into a contract with Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Ltd. for design and construction of the vessel in accordance with Nautilus’ specifications. Marine Assets Corp. will own the vessel and will charter it to Nautilus.
