Officials at global service company Metso have announced the opening of a mining hub in Chile, the world’s No. 1 copper producer. The Antofagasta-based center strengthens Metso’s South America position, said company officials, facilitating to response key regional customer requirements.
“Chile is Latin America’s largest, most advanced mining market and will remain so for a long time,” said Aldo Cermenati, Metso’s vice president, Mining and Construction Services in South America. “Strengthening local service operations is part of our continuing commitment to the country’s mining industry.”
La Negra Industrial Estate facility in northern Chile will allow access and contact with the area’s biggest mining companies, said company officials. With new technology, the center includes engineering and production, equipment assembly and overhaul and industrial equipment, said officials; new centers are also being built in Arequipa, Peru and Cananea, Mexico.
With 30,000 employees, Metso operates 70 hubs worldwide close to all major mining projects, and specializes in technology, processing, machinery and services for customers in aggregates, production, construction, mining and minerals.
