Minerals process and project manager MDM Engineering Group Ltd. has been awarded the engineering design, procurement, construction and project management contract for Sibanye Gold Ltd.’s Driefontein No. 2 metallurgical plant gold project in South Africa.
Sibanye’s three principal operations, namely Kloof and Driefontein, lie in the Witwatersrand region and Beatrix in the Free State. Sibanye is South Africa’s No. 1 gold producer and is among the top 10 largest gold producers globally; South Africa itself is the biggest gold-producing nation in sub-Saharan Africa.
The scope of work (SoW) for the DP2 project includes an 180,000 ton per month (t/m) true carbon-in-leach plant expandable with a duplicate plant to 300,000 t/m in the future. The project is scheduled for Q4 2014 completion.
