PANalytical recently unveiled its Epsilon 1 XRF (X-ray fluorescence) unit for pre-calibrated analysis of materials. A fully integrated, energy-dispersive XRF analyzer consisting of a spectrometer, built-in computer and touch screen, it is designed to provide cost-effective analysis for a number of key processes and is claimed to offer a complete, accurate solution for elemental analysis of many materials commonly found in mining operations. According to the company, the Epsilon 1 uses the latest in silicon drift technology to handle highly concentrated samples without loss of accuracy or longer measuring times. The unit’s integral computer, running Microsoft Windows 7 and equipped with a powerful CPU and 120-GB hard drive, ensures flexibility to store and handle thousands of results. A high-resolution LCD touch screen allows easy operation. To shield the delicate core of the system from sample spillage, a protection foil has been included in the unit’s design and can be easily replaced by the operator if necessary.
