The new Cat 992 Wheel Loader offers 32% greater productivity, up to 10% lower maintenance costs, and up to 48% greater payload-per-fuel-efficiency over its predecessor’s competition, Caterpillar reported.

The unit is powered by the new Cat C32B engine, with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 Final/EU Stage V and Tier 2-equivalent emission engine options. Powertrain design enhancements to the transmission, axles and final drive help deliver a 20% longer interval for planned component replacement, the supplier reported.

Standard-lift payload capacities reach 27.2 metric tons (mt).

Improvements to the setback and strike plane angles, a longer bucket floor, and a stronger and larger bottom section increase the bucket fill factor by 10%, Cat reported.

The unit features an on-demand throttle mode to optimize payload-per-fuel-efficiency without slowing production. Optional new Autodig Components help improve productivity and efficiency while reducing tire wear. Optional Payload Overload Prevention allows for productivity and efficiency improvements. Available Operator Coaching helps operators exceed productivity targets by providing feedback on operating techniques.

The cab offers increased visibility and intuitive control, Cat reported. It offers 50% more legroom and more width by the knees. Two 254-mm color LED monitors display machine control and operating functions. A separate 203-mm screen is for the rearview camera, upgradable with an optional 270° vision and object detection.

Separately, Cat reported the D9 dozer is now available. The company announced the D9 would replace the D9T in Q4 2020.

The D9 lowers overall costs per unit of material moved by up to 3%, cuts fuel consumption by as much as 5%, and lowers maintenance and repair costs by as much as 4% over the D9T, Caterpillar said.

The dozer has a Cat C18 engine that can be configured to meet EPA Tier 4-Final/Stage-V regulations. It features differential steering for a tight turning radius. The D9 can be equipped with any of a range of blades and attachments, Cat reported.

The cab features intuitive controls, a cloth air-suspension seat, large touchscreen displays, and architecture that allows for modifications.

Sensors on the dozer can support Product Link Elite and the Vital Information Management System. Automation and operator assistance systems available include Automated Blade Assist, AutoCarry and Automatic Ripper Control.
