A white paper from the University of Queensland in Brisbane reported Loadscan’s Mine Payload Scanner (MPS) can help an underground operation reduce carryback and address underloading, overloading and uneven loading.
The MPS is suspended above the road, and trucks are driven under it. To calibrate the system, empty trucks are fitted with an RFID tag for identification purposes and then scanned to create a baseline.
Trucks do not need to stop to be scanned. The scan information returned can highlight underloading, overloading, or uneven loading, which can cause unnecessary stress and wear on truck components and substantially increase operating costs.
The MPS system offers time-saving over weighbridges, reducing cycle times, Loadscan said. The “installation, operating and maintenance costs of an MPS are also considerably lower than in-situ weighing systems.”
