Hammond Air Conditioning released 12-volt (V) and 24-V Arctic Breeze air-conditioning-power systems for loaders, excavators and haul trucks. The solution succeeds the 12-V battery-powered-AC Arctic Breeze system used in on-road transit trucks to cool cabs with minimal fuel usage.

Arctic Breeze systems get their power from banks of AGM deep-cell batteries, which charge while the engine is running and power the air-conditioning system when the engine is off. They provide up to 10,000 BTUs of power for up to two hours of idle time, the company reported.

In transit trucks, the system is used to keep a cab cool all night while the driver sleeps.
