Caterpillar reported the new Cat 6040 Hydraulic Mining Shovel features an added engine configuration that meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emission standards.
The configuration includes two fuel-efficient Cat C32 engines, offering a total gross power rating of 1,550 kilowatts (kW). The engine package includes maintenance-free diesel oxidation catalysts and does not require diesel exhaust fluid or diesel particulate filters.
With a 39.6-metric-ton (mt) bucket payload, the shovel is a four-pass match with the Cat 785; a five-pass match with the Cat 789; and a six-pass match with the Cat 793.
Product Link Elite, of the Cat MineStar Solutions suite, comes standard on the shovel. It delivers enhanced communication by transferring data to both the local server and the cloud simultaneously.
The shovel has a heavy-duty undercarriage that delivers increased uptime, Caterpillar reported. Improved heavy-duty load rollers and idlers now feature duo cone seals, steel-back bronze bearings and fixed-axle technology to increase service life and eliminate overheating during travel.
The 6040 can be equipped with backhoe or Cat TriPower Face Shovel front-end designs. The front attachments are made of high-strength steel and feature castings that extend service life and production targets, Cat said.
More recently, Caterpillar reported the new Cat 777G Water Solutions Truck features the Cat Water Delivery System (WDS) combined with Cat MineStar Edge for improved safety and productivity.
Cat WDS delivers variable waterflow based on truck speed. It conserves water, and reduces the risk of accidents due to poor visibility, Cat said. The pump automatically starts and stops when the truck slows or stops. It turns off automatically when the tank is empty.
Cat MineStar Edge sends machine data, allowing remote monitoring. The system can provide data on location, utilization, fuel and water levels, water usage and area covered.
The truck comes with an integrated 76,000-liter Cat water tank with a spray system, splash guards, fill chute and rock ejectors. In Adaptive Economy Mode, the truck uses 13% less fuel than when in full-power mode.
Separately, Caterpillar Energy Solutions added a V12 and V16 cylinder variant to its MWM TCG 3020 gas generator set series. The gensets offer the durability and reliability of predecessor solutions in the series, and are characterized by more power and reduced oil consumption, Cat reported.
With the TCG 3020 platform design, the new units offer an electrical output of 1,380 (V12) and 1,840 kW (V16), and a performance increase of up to 18% compared to their predecessors.
Maintenance intervals of up to 80,000 operating hours are possible between overhauls, thus reducing operating costs, Caterpillar reported.
MWM TCG 3020 series units are suitable for natural gas, biogas, landfill gas and propane gas applications. They can be controlled with MWM’s digital control system, Total Plant & Energy Management. TPEM can facilitate the control and monitoring of gensets and an entire distributed energy generation plant, Cat reported.
