Caterpillar partnered with Luck Stone to deploy Cat MineStar Command for Hauling to a fleet of 777s at the Bull Run operation in Chantilly, Virginia, U.S.A. It is Caterpillar’s first sale of that solution in the aggregates industry, and it will give insight into quarry operations for use in future innovations, Cat said.
The upgrade will be completed in 2024.
Leadership at the quarry said the partnership grew out of a preexisting long-term relationship. “Together we believe that safety, innovation and a commitment to people are critical, not only to propelling important projects like this, but to ensuring our focus on the future and all of the exciting possibilities technology affords our industry,” CEO Charlie Luck said. “Our collaboration will provide opportunities for associates to learn and grow, improve safety and result in production efficiencies.”
Trucks equipped with Cat MineStar Command for Hauling have now traveled more than 187 million km and autonomously moved more than 5.1 billion mt without a single zero lost-time injury, Cat reported. The supplier is eager to scale the “already proven mining solution for another industry,” said Denise Johnson, group president, Caterpillar. “Caterpillar has a long-standing relationship with Luck Stone, and we look forward to working together to bring the demonstrated benefits of increased safety and productivity to the quarry industry.”
