Sandvik reported it will supply six new Pantera DP1600i drill rigs, with Top Hammer XL technology, to Yara’s Siilinjärvi phosphate mine. The order supports a 10-year strategic alliance between Tapojärvi Oy and the miner to digitalize, increase automation and improve sustainability at the mine.

All six rigs will be remotely operated using the AutoMine system and come with a package of solutions for maintenance, rock tools and OptiMine information management.

Sandvik said it was honored to be selected as the drilling technology supplier. “We have cooperated with the mine since it was founded and developed many new solutions together over the years,” Jari Weman, sales manager, northeast Europe, Sandvik, said. “Through this agreement, we will further develop productivity and safety solutions in collaboration with the alliance, using Sandvik’s latest drilling technology, automation and digitalization solutions.”

Sandvik launched the new Top Hammer XL drilling system globally in March and the order by Tapojärvi Oy is the first.
