Canadian Phosphate Project Contracts German Supplier

Arianne Phosphate signed FLSmidth to provide all production equipment and engineering for their future plant, Lac à Paul in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. The phosphate processing plant will be designed for a capacity of 55,000 metric tons per day (mt/d), to produce 3 million mt/year (mt/y) of phosphate rock concentrate, grading 38.6% P2O5, with concentrate P2O5 recovery of 90%.

ABB to Upgrade 5 Hoists at Kiruna

FLANDERS acquired a Fort McMurray, Canada, repair facility previously operated by ABB. The Fort McMurray Regional Service Center is fully equipped and will immediately employ six locally. The center will service customers with motor repairs up to 2,500 hp. It expands the company’s repair network to 15 globally.

Atlas Copco acquired a 34% stake in Mobilaris MCE, a mining intelligence business. The latter’s software solutions offers situational awareness of the mines, real-time positioning and detailed status information on vehicles, equipment and personnel.

Improved Aerial Imagery From Drone Cameras

Insitu announced the integration of a 50-megapixiel camera into its ScanEagle drone. The camera will enable high-accuracy photogrammetric (HAP) aerial imagery. Compared to current photogrammetric payloads, Insitu’s HAP payload dramatically decreases the aerial survey flight and processing time, allowing precise broad area survey, and the delivery of a georeferenced site digital surface model. Insitu’s HAP payload achieves this quick turnaround by taking many high-resolution images and integrating them to make a broad-area view.

Platform Speeds EO Data Analysis

3DEO adopted FD’s Kx platform to provide rapid analysis of Earth observation (EO) data from satellites, aerial platforms and aerial drones. 3DEO collects and organizes imagery data, and provides an immersive way to visualize 3-D satellite images using virtual reality, augmented reality and proximity techniques. The agreement is advantageous to 3DEO, the company reported, due to Kx’s potential to increase the volume and velocity of data processed. The company reported it will leverage and develop Kx’s ability to work with complementary technologies, such as the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library suite.


Service Center in Wyoming for Dozers, Excavators Opens

Intertractor America Corp. opened a new 6,000-ft2 service center in Gillette, Wyoming. It will provide a centralized location for customers in North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, eastern Utah and northern Colorado in need of undercarriage service for excavators, dozers and other tracked machines.

Center for Methane Capture Opens

The Central Mining Institute in Katowice, Polish Oil and Gas Co. (PGNiG) opened the International Center of Excellence on Coal Mine Methane in Katowice. The center will participate in the development of new technologies for and methods of capturing and utilizing methane as a valuable energy source. New solutions are to increase mining efficiency and safety of the miners as well as to reduce methane emissions and the carbon footprint of the coal mining sector.


Pipe Fittings Company to Offer Fire Protection

Anvil International acquired AFCON. Anvil manufactures pipe fittings, pipe hangers and piping support systems. AFCON provides fire protection pipe hangers and seismic bracing products. Anvil’s mining line offers a broad range of products that protect against pipe deflection and movement, including Gruvlok couplings and fittings, tools, hangers, Anvil-Strut, IPC coatings, supports and lubricants, the company reported. Specialized application-specific butterfly, ball and check valves are available.


Bearings Test Center Opens

SKF opened its $45 million Sven Wingquist Test Center in Schweinfurt, Germany. The center is the first in the world that is able to test large-size bearings under actual operating conditions, the company reported.

The Timken Co. acquired Torsion Control Products. Timken provides bearings and mechanical power transmission products. Torsion Control Products manufactures engineered torsional couplings. It sells a line of spring couplings, torque limiters, and torque converter clutches specifically for Tier III and Tier IV engine configurations, the company reported.


4 Partners to Digitize Industry in Bavaria

Siemens partnered with three others on Bavaria’s Road to Digital Production (R2D), which is aimed at developing improved technologies, interfaces and infrastructures for the implementation of digital industrial production. R2D aims to demonstrate that digitalization will not only increase efficiency but also pave the way for optimum quality assurance, Siemens reported. Since September 2016, the group sought to digitally map and integrate the process landscape of industrial mass production down to the workshop level.

Sorting Tech Catches Big, Tiny Diamonds

TOMRA’s X-ray transmission (XRT) sorting technology reportedly recovered a 227-carat Type IIa premium-quality diamond at the Lulo mine in Angola. The diamond is not only the largest single stone to be recovered at the newly commissioned XRT large diamond recovery circuit at Lulo, but it is also Angola’s second largest recorded diamond. As part of the new coarse recovery stream at the 150-metric-ton-per-hour (mt/h) diamond plant, the XRT technology provided the Lulo partners with the capability to recover individual diamonds up to 1,100 carats.

Contractor to Supply Grinding Equipment

Amec Foster Wheeler Civmec joint venture contracted Outotec for the delivery of process equipment to the greenfield Gruyere Gold project in Western Australia. Outotec’s scope of work includes the design and delivery of a 15-megawatt (MW) semiautogenous grinding mill. The equipment will be delivered during the first quarter of 2018. The order is valued at more than $15 million.
