Rogers Communications and NORCAT announced a five-year strategic relationship to accelerate technology adoption in the global mining industry. As part of the partnership, Rogers Communications will supply communications and network solutions to the Rogers Technology Center of Excellence at the NORCAT Underground Center in Ontario, Canada. NORCAT is a personnel training services supplier with a focus on innovation.

Rogers Communications said its Center will bring innovative new solutions to life, and increase efficiency, safety and productivity in the global mining industry. “Our collaboration with NORCAT and the launch of the Rogers Technology Center of Excellence will foster unique opportunities to engage with likeminded organizations and emerging technology companies,” Tom Turner, president, said.

The Center will initially focus on innovations in automation, autonomous operations, and tele-remote control that can use 5G communications systems supplied by Rogers Communications. It will become a global destination that will showcase future mining technologies, NORCAT said. “Using our active laboratory, we connect and broker relationships between emerging technology companies and global mining companies, creating an ecosystem like no other in the world,” Don Duval, CEO, said.
