Weir Minerals Africa reported a Warman MCR 450 pump increased the throughput and reduced energy consumption in the secondary mill circuit at Anglo American Platinum’s Mogalakwena mine.
Weir originally proposed the pump solution, equipped with a rubber lining and metal impeller, because it offered a higher volumetric capacity. The larger impeller allows lower pump speeds. The rubber liner is lighter, and the hydraulic design has improved efficiency and wear characteristics, Weir reported. This allowed the mine to raise production from 600,000 to more than 700,000 dry metric tons (mt) per month.
