Hexagon Mining announced the early completion of installation of HxGN MineProtect Operator Alertness System Heavy Vehicle (OAS-HV) at the Rossing uranium mine in Namibia. The mine also uses Hexagon’s 24/7 Remote Monitoring Service.

Rossing adopted OAS-HV after a trial in the fourth quarter of 2020, leadership at the mine said.

“We noticed an increase in the productivity of operators and machinery, which improved our production,” said George Murasiki, principal advisor, Rossing. “Good communication between all parties ensured we achieved the efficiencies needed to reach targets early.”

The installation was completed two months ahead of schedule.

OAS-HV is an integrated fatigue and distraction-detection, alerting and reporting solution. Integrated with HxGN MineProtect Collision Avoidance System, OAS-HV uses sophisticated computer vision technology to provide a real-time fatigue and distraction risk status and traffic awareness to operators.

Separately, Hexagon AB announced it acquired Minnovare, which makes sensors and software to capture, deliver and analyze data from underground drill rig operations.

The development could give customers invaluable solutions that improve speed, cost and accuracy of underground drilling, Hexagon Mining said. The “acquisition accelerates and enhances Hexagon’s underground development roadmap as well as strengthens our formidable drill and blast portfolio,” Chief Technology Officer Rob Daw said.

Minnovare has sold 150 systems to 90 mining operations worldwide. It will join Hexagon Mining.
