MacLean Engineering celebrated the completion of a 1,400-m2 expansion of its Owen Sound, Ontario, manufacturing facility with a ribbon cutting. The expansion doubles assembly capacity from five assembly bays to 10, with two 10-ton cranes, a separate storage building for parts, and an external loading ramp for rig deliveries. The project was initiated in Q4 2018 and completed in Q1 2019. The plant employs 140 people. As many as 60 hires are expected, including welders, machinists, electricians, mechanics and administrative personnel. Leadership said that with the expansion and the benefits it offers comes the expectation to double production. “Access to local trades is a big part of our challenge at MacLean: to keep up with the demand for specialized mining and municipal vehicles around the world,” Ed Hawton, plant manager, Owen Sound, McLean Engineering, said. “This community offers up the workforce that we need for our current production and future growth, so we’re strong proponents of Owen Sound as a place to do business on a global scale.”
