Komatsu reported it is building a significantly expanded office and administration building on its manufacturing campus in Longview, Texas, U.S.A., where the electrical drives for its wheel loaders are made. The company broke ground for the new 5,200-m2 building and is targeting a move-in date of December 2023.
The new building will house functions that were previously housed in six buildings. It will provide workspace for up to 230 people, and will house an employee center with a café and a store. There will also be a Komatsu Customer Experience Center, showcasing Komatsu history.
The $100 million project reflects, among other things, Komatsu’s commitment to the city of Longview, the company said. “Our goal is to continue to demonstrate that we are a solid community partner that offers good, family-sustaining jobs,” said Jesse Dubberly, general manager, Longview operations. “We are constructing a building that is designed to not only better serve our existing workforce, but is also sized for our future growth.”
Beyond wheel loader components, currently the campus makes parts for shovels, trucks and drills. The campus also supports research and development, design and manufacturing.
This year, a new fabrication building on campus won a TEXO Distinguished Building Awards competition.
