The Fluor Petrosea Joint Organization (FPJO), led by Fluor, won a contract from Freeport Indonesia to install a new grinding mill at Grasberg in Papau, Indonesia. FPJO will build a semiautogenous grinding mill adjacent to the existing facilities as the mine ramps up underground production.

The additional SAG mill will bring milling capacity at the site to 240,000 metric tons per day (mt/d).

Fluor’s Perth, Australia, office will support the offices in Jakarta and Vancouver for the project. Construction began in late 2021 and will end in 2023.

The contract is one of many at the mine won by Fluor since the 1980s, FPJO said. “We value the trust we have earned over the decades with the Freeport team, and are proud to expand our global footprint in the industry as a solutions provider for the global copper demand,” said Tony Morgan, president mining and metals, Fluor.
