Seafloor mineral exploration company Nauru Ocean Resources Inc. (NORI), a subsidiary of DeepGreen Metals Inc., contracted Fugro for site characterization surveys of a potential deep-sea polymetallic nodule mining project in the eastern Pacific. Using a drone, Fugro will acquire high-resolution imagery, geophysical data and rock samples. It will measure geotechnical properties, catalogue the mineral resource and identify optimal target areas. The nodule field is sited in depths of up to 4,500 m over a 400-km2 area between the Clarion and Clipperton fracture zones.
