Epiroc won a $12.7 million order from Assmang Pty Ltd. for battery-electric equipment for Black Rock underground manganese mine in the Northern Cape province, South Africa. The order is for several battery loaders and trucks, including the Scooptram ST14 Battery and Minetruck MT42 Battery.

The machines will be equipped with a Collision Avoidance System and the Certiq telematics system, which allows for automated monitoring of productivity and machine performance.

Assmang previously ordered battery-electric machines for the mine. In 2019, the company began using Epiroc’s Mobilaris Mining Intelligence digital solution, which provides situational awareness of the mining operation in real-time, Epiroc said.

“Epiroc is proud to support Assmang on its journey toward lower emissions through the use of our cutting-edge battery-electric machines, while also prioritizing productivity and safety,” CEO Helena Hedblom said.
