Westermo announced the successful commissioning of a data communications network, complete with a monitoring and control system, at Vršany Lom coal mine, operated by Sev.en Commodities AG subsidiary Vršanská uhelná a.s. The network runs on Westermo WeOS-powered devices, consisting of 60 Westermo Lynx switches and 40 Wolverine Ethernet extenders, Westermo reported. Data communication equipment and cabling are installed along the conveyor belts and connect several hundred sensors that provide operational data to the central SCADA system. Fiber optic cables are located inside the permanent conveyors, with the Lynx switches installed in substations at set points along the conveyor belts. The network is configured in a ring topology with Westermo’s FRNT ring reconfiguration protocol, Westermo reported. Vršany Lom, reportedly one of the largest mines in the Czech Republic, is a brown coal surface mine located in the North Bohemian coal basin near the town of Most.
