Codelco’s Gabriela Mistral division announced it has transported 1 billion tons using autonomous haul trucks. The company said it is the first to operate a 100% autonomous fleet, made up of 20 haul trucks equipped with Komatsu’s FrontRunner, Dispatch, and Provision systems.
Leadership at the mine said the development represents a major safety milestone, achieved with zero fatalities or serious accidents. Komatsu said it indicates possible future developments.
The division “is a seedbed for other projects that are being implemented, since improvements and technologies come from here,” said Rodrigo Rojas, project manager. “So it is very important to continue contributing.”
