Researchers from Japan’s Kanazawa University recently reported on the application of a portable and efficient method for the on-site analysis of wastewaters for quantitative analysis of their gold, platinum and palladium content.

The researchers pointed out that precious metals are mainly sourced through mining, but the possibility of recycling them from metallurgical waste leachates is attracting attention. Compact and portable instruments performing the analysis of wastewaters in on-field rapid analysis would be useful to improve the efficiency of the recovery of precious metals.
