Robert “Bob”
Steane
The Mining Association of Canada announced that Robert “Bob” Steane, senior vice-president and COO of Cameco Corp., has been elected as chair for a two-year term. Steane replaces Zoë Yujnovich, vice president of oil sands operations for Shell Canada, who served as chair from June 2013 to June 2015.
Peter Crossgrove passed away. Born in Sudbury, Canada, and raised in Copper Cliff, he was an accomplished business leader and humanitarian. Crossgrove helped raise millions of dollars for Ontario’s health care and cancer care organizations. He served on the board of Barrick Gold for 22 years, was CEO and vice chairman of Placer Dome and was a founder of Masonite International. Crossgrove was the recipient of the Order of Canada, Order of Ontario, The Upper Canada Medal, Queens Golden Jubilee Medal and Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Mitchell
J. Krebs
Mitchell J. Krebs, president, CEO and director of Coeur Mining, has been elected president of the Silver Institute by its membership. He succeeds Fernando Alanis, CEO of Industrias Peñoles, S.A.B. de C.V. Octavio Alvidrez, CEO of Fresnillo Plc, was elected vice president of the institute, succeeding Krebs in this role. Both will serve a two-year term.
Anglo American announced that Phil Mitchell, group director of human resources and public affairs, decided to step down from his position and retire. He joined Anglo American in 2014. Anik Michaud, group director of corporate communication, will lead a revised function that will include corporate communication and government and social affairs. His new role as group director of corporate relations is effective immediately.
Argent Minerals appointed Sarah Shipway as nonexecutive director, following the untimely passing away of Nonexecutive Director Marcus Michael.
True Gold appointed David Laing as COO to oversee the technical completion of construction and the transition into production at the company’s Karma project, in Burkina Faso. Laing joined True Gold from base metals streaming company Quintana Resources, where he was COO.
Orefinders Resources Inc. appointed Stephen Stewart as the new CEO. Alexander Stewart retains the position of executive chairman.
Darcie Ladd
Largo Resources Ltd. appointed Darcie Ladd as vice president of investor relations. Ladd has served Largo as corporate development manager since 2010.
El Tigre Silver Corp appointed Ernie Elko as CEO and chairman. Elko replaces Wade Anderson who has resigned for family reasons. Anderson will remain a director. Elko is one of El Tigre’s larger shareholders and became a director in 2013.
George Hernandez
Amec Foster Wheeler appointed George Hernandez as president, upstream business development. Prior to his appointment, he was vice president of operations and business unit general manager for WorleyParsons’ upstream business since 2013.
Castle Mountain Mining Co Ltd. appointed Martin Tunney to vice president, business development. He previously held the title of vice president, technical services.
Benjamin Sporton
Mick Buffier
World Coal Association (WCA) appointed Benjamin Sporton as its new chief executive and Mick Buffier as chairman. Sporton has been deputy CEO at the WCA since 2012 and acting CEO since the end of 2014. Buffier is group executive, coal assets, at Glencore. He has been a director of the WCA for more than four years.
IronPlanet announced that Gord McDougall has joined its Canadian executive team as managing director, Canada, Cat Auction Services.
Aggreko appointed Dr. Sixtus Mulenga as nonexecutive chairman, Aggreko Zambia. Mulenga has a long distinguished academic career, publishing numerous academic papers in the field of mining geology and sustainability.

Minemax hired John Battista as general manager. He most recently industry spent seven years at Golder Associates in both consulting and business development roles.
Roger K. Newport has been promoted to executive vice president, finance and CFO for AK Steel. He was previously senior vice president, finance and CFO. Kirk W. Reich has been promoted to executive vice president, manufacturing. He was previously senior vice president, manufacturing. Keith J. Howell has been promoted to senior vice president, operations. He was previously vice president, operations. Joseph C. Alter has been named vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. He previously was vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer.
