Newmont Mining appointed Laurie Brlas as executive vice president and CFO. Brlas most recently served as executive vice president and president of global operations for Cliffs Natural Resources.
Teck Resources appointed Andrew Golding as senior vice president, corporate development.
South Africa’s Pan African Resources announced that interim joint chief executive Ron Holding will take over as CEO with immediate effect. It also named Cobus Loots, a managing director at Shanduka Resources, as its next financial director. Loots will replace Busi Sitole who steps down at the end of September.
Marc Leduc has been appointed COO of Lydian International. Leduc worked for Barrick Gold as chief engineer for the design, construction and initial operation of the Pierina valley-fill heap leach gold mine in Peru and, until recently, he served as the president and COO of Bear Creek Mining.
Zach Casley has been appointed CEO of the PanTerra Gold Group.
BHP Billiton announced that Mike Fraser will join the Group Management Committee as president, human resources.

Coeur Mining Inc. named Hans Rasmussen as vice president of exploration. Most recently, Rasmussen served as president and CEO of Colombia Crest Gold.
Bryan Cave partner Jim Cress has been named Denver Mining Law “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers, the oldest attorney rating publication in the United States.
McEwen Mining promoted Ian Ball from senior vice president to president. He has been with the company since late 2005 and has been instrumental in advancing the development of the company’s Mexican assets.
Nuinsco Resources announced several changes to the board and senior management structure. Rene Galipeau has stepped down as CEO. Paul Jones will be named CEO and Sean Stokes will become executive vice president. Galipeau will focus on his roles as vice chairman, director and CEO of Victory Nickel Inc., in which Nuinsco has a significant financial interest. Bob Wardell will resign as chairman of the board, remaining a director of the company, and be succeeded in that role by Galipeau as non-executive chairman. Jones has also been appointed to the Board of Directors. Jones has been associated with the company since 1983, and was appointed president in October 2007. Stokes joined Nuinsco in 2006, and has been vice president, corporate affairs and corporate secretary since June 2008.
Last month, Nuinsco Resources announced the death of Director George Archibald. Archibald had served as a director of Nuinsco since 1995, however, his association with the company and its predecessors began when he founded New Insco Mines in 1970 with H. Douglas Hume. During the course of a partnership that lasted more than 30 years until Hume’s death in 2003, they made seven discoveries, including their first in 1971, a massive sulphide copper deposit in Hebecourt Township, Quebec.
PMI Gold appointed John Ciganek as general manager of corporate development. The company also appointed Peter Bradford, currently a non-executive director of the company, as president and CEO.

Katanga Mining announced that Itamar Machado, COO, has resigned to pursue other opportunities within the Glencore Xstrata Group. Machado will remain available to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities. Richmond Fenn, who joined the company in June as director of operations, has been appointed as the new COO. Fenn has 30 years of experience in the mining sector including 10 years working as an expatriate in Peru, Chile and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Stefan Romedahl has been appointed general manager of Boliden Tara Mines.
The World Gold Council elected Randall Oliphant as its new chairman. Oliphant is executive chairman of the Canadian gold producer New Gold and succeeds Ian Telfer, chairman of Goldcorp.

Norwest Corp. appointed Kurt Kost to the position of senior vice president. In this role, Kost will assist in delivering and expanding Norwest’s offerings and provide executive oversight for the environmental, water resources and field services area for Norwest’s U.S. operations. Most recently, he served as the president of Alpha Natural Resources. Steve Godard has also been appointed to the position of manager of water resources services. He recently returned to the U.S. from Brisbane, where he worked as a principal services manager for RPS Aquaterra.
