Sandvik introduced a new 16-liter, 585-kilowatt (kW), Stage V engine option for the Toro TH551i 51-metric-ton (mt) i-series truck. It delivers more power than the previous Tier 4i engine for higher speeds and more productivity, Sandvik reported.
The truck exhaust after-treatment system contains a selective catalytic reduction system that uses diesel exhaust fluid to reduce emissions of NOx without impacting performance. The common rail injection and dual-stage turbo charging provide high power density, low fuel consumption, low noise and low emissions, Sandvik reported. Optimal cooling solutions in the engine minimize parasitic energy losses.
Features include an operator speed assist functionality that can set a maximum speed. An engine brake is used as the primary speed control, which reduces brake wear.
The engine runs on traditional diesel or can use paraffinic diesel fuels.
The update is the latest of several recent improvements to the bigger Toro trucks. The trucks come ready for Sandvik’s AutoMine solution for autonomous haulage.
