Glencore Technology introduced the ISAMELT F600, a portable furnace using the same top-submerged lance technology of the full-scale ISASMELT.

The unit was designed to be both dynamic and easy to use. It is 3 m tall, and comes precommissioned and partially prebuilt in five shipping crates. After assembly, hook up fuel, gas, oxygen, and the off-gas handling system, and begin operating.

In the furnace, the lance injects oxygen-enriched air into a molten slag bath. The bath becomes turbulent. Feed is then introduced and reacts in the bath. The lance can then be removed and the furnace tilted to pour the product through the front spout.

The furnace will enable operations and universities to do in a day and on location what could otherwise take months by using an external provider, Glencore Technology said.
